To entice you to check out the photos (and the event!). I am going to give you a little taste of what the bowl making was like . . .
It was a beautiful spring day, with sun streaming through the windows of the ceramic's studio. The bowl's the students are going to make are not necessarily functional bowls. They are more symbolic, illustrating the fact that there are still people who need food in our community.
Beth, a Concordia art professor and organizer of this April's Empty Bowls, demonstrated to some student's how to create a bowl:
First you pound the clay . . .

Then you roll the bowl flat. Next you create a nice design. . .

After Beth demonstrated how to make a bowl, the student's went to work . . .

The completed bowls sat on a shelf awaiting the next exciting step . . .

As I said, this is the first phase of bowl making. After these bowls are complete, they will be fired and then painted. To see the finished products, you'll have to come to Empty Bowls!
P.S. Another great reason to come to Empty Bowls--There are going to be glass bowls there for sale as well. I saw these bowls last year and they are incredible! These special bowls will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, so bid early and often!
This event is so important because art is important. This event is important because people need food and we need the funds to feed them. But this event is nothing without you, so spread the word!
